In Earth, we begin to unearth that which is holding us back and preventing a natural forwarding. It is where we move through stagnation and stuckness, where we see in our lives where we have been settling.
In this process emerges a softening of our system to return into balance so that we can become grounded, safe, and live with a deep, innate feeling of belonging to this world, planet, and species. As we enter the darkness of winter, we cross the threshold of the known into the unknown.
This is the space of the great mystery, and as the light dims, we find ourselves unable to see where we are going. This is the time when we get to sharpen our other senses, especially our sense of smell.
We are designed for survival on a deep level. You could say it’s not even something we need to learn, as it is intrinsic, instinctual. But in our modern-day culture, our senses have been bombarded and dulled.
We become oriented to ever more stimuli, needing to feel what we once could feel. This means we have lost the subtle senses. Without being able to resensitize and return to a more effective state of being, we can’t use our inbuilt senses for their original design, which is to help protect, navigate, and orient us into that which is for us.
Our sense of smell is our fastest sense in the fact that it does not pass through the part of the brain that needs to make sense of it. It goes straight to our responses. Look at animals with acute smell. They smell danger, food, and even a mate in the air long before the presence of that thing.
Fear is not a bad thing. In fact, it is what we need to protect. It sharpens our senses.
